This performance features the return of Reston favorite Leon Bates to the
stage. This time however, he is bringing some friends, The Borealis Wind
Quintet. This Grammy nominated quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn
and bassoon) is regarded as one of America's preeminent chamber
ensembles. Over the past twenty years, Leon Bates has emerged as one of America's
leading pianists. He is invited to the most prestigious concert halls and his performances have
warranted critical and audience accolades in Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and The Kennedy
Center. Together they will present a unique performance combining innovative programming and musical excellence.
Damian’s note: I fell in love with Leon’s performance last season and I knew I wanted to have him back at some
point. When I found out that he loves to collaborate with the Borealis Wind Quintet (another group I wanted to bring
in) I couldn’t resist bringing them to Reston together this season. To add icing to the cake, Leon will be working with
area elementary schools students to share his enthusiasm for the piano.
