The exhibit title “Roads Home, Roads Away” was meant to be broad enough to capture the diversity of the subjects we paint, while realizing that the show would feature mostly landscape paintings.

However, the idea of “Roads Home, Roads Away” has grown on me, as an acknowledgement that we are always in transition between home and away, between the known and the unfamiliar, between safety and risk.  If we lean into this conflict between seeming opposites, we may find that our lives, and perhaps our art, can remain fresh and flourishing.

I am excited to include the works of many painting companions in this show! The works included are paintings based in the joy of creating, and the pursuit of the journey between home and away.

Diane’s roots are in the woods and fields of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where early experiences with ad-hoc art camps held in barns and exposure to renowned local artists such as Joann Issac made a life-long impression.

Diane resumed study of oils and watercolor after the birth of her first child.  In the nearly 30 years since, she has had the pleasure of studying with many of the finest teachers and painters of the DC Metro area and has been an instructor at the Reston Community Center since 2018.
